We have a number of different swabs we send out, depending on the type of testing you have ordered. We will have included an instruction leaflet in your swabbing kit but just in case, here are the instructions.
If you have received one of our GREEN swabs
These swabs have a 13-digit unique barcode stamped onto the sample tube and the tube contains a pale purple preservative, which is non-toxic.
- Remove the swab from its packet and avoid touching the foam pad as you could contaminate it with your DNA.
- Hold the swab at the end containing the preservative and insert the foam pad into your animal's cheek and rub it around the inside of their cheek for 30 seconds.
- Unscrew the foam pad from the preservative bottle and place it inside the preservative. Screw the lid tightly shut.
- Make sure you have registered the 13-digit barcode online and return it in the envelope provided.
Note: you are responsible for the cost of return postage and we strongly recommend using a tracked service such as Royal Mail Special Delivery.
If you have received a pair of our BLUE swab brushes
Both of the swab packets have the same 6-digit unique barcode number attached. Please use both brushes on your animal.
- Remove the first brush from its' packet and avoid touching the brush end as you could contaminate it with your DNA.
- Insert the brush into your cat or dog's cheek and rub it around the inside of their cheek for 30 seconds.
- Return the brush to its' barcoded packet and repeat steps 1 and 2 with the second brush.
- Make sure you have registered the 6-digit barcode online with your animal's details and return it in the envelope provided.
Note: you are responsible for the cost of return postage and we strongly recommend using a tracked service such as Royal Mail Special Delivery.
If you have received one of our RED swabs
These cotton swabs have unique 6-digit barcode number attached.
- Remove the swab from its tube by breaking the seal at the end of the swab. Avoid touching the cotton end of the swab as you could contaminate it with your DNA.
- Insert the swab into your cat or dog's cheek and rub it around the inside of their cheek for 30 seconds.
- Return the brush to it's barcoded tube.
- Make sure you have registered the 6-digit barcode online with your animal's details and return it in the envelope provided.
Note: you are responsible for the cost of return postage and we strongly recommend using a tracked service such as Royal Mail Special Delivery.
